The Fiat Ducato Camper Story

< back

At Stuart Insurances, we find tailored camper insurance policies for our customers across Ireland and we create blogs like this one to provide insight into the increasingly popular pastime that is campervanning. In this particular article, we look at one of the most popular vehicles for conversion, the Fiat Ducato, so if you’ve got your seatbelt secured, we’ll set off on our journey into history!

The 1st Generation (1981-1993)

First launched back in 1981 by the Italian manufacturer and developed by automotive company Stellantis, the first Fiat Ducato version was originally sold across Europe under a variety of different names that included the Citroen C25, The Talbot Express, the Peugeot J5 and the Alfa Romeo ARS.

The Second Generation (1993-2006)

It was during the 2nd generation that the automobile was officially known as Fiat Ducato, although it was still known in other areas differently, being named the Citroen Jumper and the Peugeot Boxer in other national markets across Europe. In more recent years, it’s been known as the Ram ProMaster in the Candadian and US markets.

In the modern day, it’s extremely popular due to being very reliable and coming with relatively low running costs. Also, from a driving point of view, it offers great all round visibility and with a nice big 105 inch x 122 inch x 145 inch interior, there’s lots of scope for modifying into a comfortable living space.
